How Memorial Glass Is Made – The Simple Process for UK Customers
Introduction
Choosing a memorial glass keepsake is a heartfelt decision. Many families love the idea of turning a loved one’s ashes into a beautiful piece of glass art – but aren’t sure how the process works, or how ashes are handled.
At Neo Art Glass, I make the experience simple, safe, and personal. Here’s exactly what happens – from placing your order to holding your finished keepsake in your hands.
1️⃣ Placing Your Order
The first step is choosing the memorial glass piece that feels right for you – whether it’s a memorial poppy, a candle holder, or a paperweight.
You can select:
-
Your chosen colours
-
Optional extras, like gold or silver flakes for a gentle sparkle
💡 Only a teaspoon of ashes is needed for each piece.
2️⃣ Receiving Your Ashes Kit (UK Customers)
Once you place your order, I’ll send you a simple ashes collection kit to make everything straightforward.
📦 What’s inside the kit?
-
A small container or bag for the ashes
-
A wooden spoon to help measure the right amount
-
Clear, step-by-step instructions
-
A prepaid return envelope
👉 How it works: Use the small wooden spoon to place around a teaspoon of ashes into the container, seal it securely, and post it back to me in the prepaid envelope. There’s no need to send the full urn – only a very small amount is required.
3️⃣ International Customers – Please Enquire First
If you’re outside the UK, please contact me before ordering. International postage of ashes has different rules, and I can provide guidance to make sure the process is safe and smooth.
4️⃣ Creating Your Memorial Glass Piece
When your ashes arrive, the creative process begins.
As a master glassblower with over 30 years of experience, I carefully fuse a small amount of ashes into molten glass at over 1000°C.
-
The ashes create a beautiful swirling pattern inside the glass
-
Your chosen colours are layered in
-
Optional gold or silver flakes can be added for a subtle shimmer
Every piece is hand-shaped and completely unique – no two will ever be the same.
5️⃣ Returning Your Keepsake (and Any Unused Ashes)
Once finished, your memorial glass piece is cooled, polished, and carefully packaged.
Your keepsake – along with any unused ashes – is sent back to you by tracked post, so you’ll always know when it’s arriving.
6️⃣ The Moment You Hold It
For many families, the most emotional moment is simply holding the finished memorial glass piece for the first time.
The way the glass catches the light, the colours you chose, and knowing your loved one’s memory is inside – it becomes a treasured keepsake for generations.
Conclusion
The process of creating a memorial glass keepsake is simple and handled with care.
From receiving your ashes kit – complete with a wooden spoon for ease – to the day your keepsake arrives, I guide you every step of the way so you can focus on what matters most: remembering your loved one.
